Courtney Summers’ 2012 young adult novel This Is Not a Test is getting a film adaptation that’s moving forward with a director and cast. According to Variety, filmmaker Adam McDonald (Backcountry, Out Come the Wolves) is on board as well as actors Olivia Holt (Heart Eyes), Froy Gutierrez (Teen Wolf), and Luke MacFarlane (Bros).
Here’s the synopsis of the story, per Variety:
This is Not a Test follows Sloane and four other students who take cover in Cortege High to escape a world plagued by the infected. As danger relentlessly pounds on the doors, Sloane begins to see the world through the eyes of people who actually want to live and takes matters into her own hands.
The project was also apparently shopped as The Breakfast Club meets 28 Weeks Later and takes place in the ‘90s. It’s one of Summers’ many novels, with 2018’s Sadie being her most-read.
“As a longtime horror movie fan, I’ve loved Adam MacDonald’s wildly intense and sharply realized contributions to the genre, and I’m thrilled he’s sharing his talents with This is Not a Test,” Summers said in a statement. “From its stellar script to its exciting cast, his and [Anova Pictures producer Cybill Lui’s] enthusiasm for the book and their passion for filmmaking has and continues to define every part of this process. I can’t wait to see the story come to life—or should I say death?—and claim its place in the zombie canon.”
No news yet on whether the film is in production or when it will make its way to your eyeballs.
