Pedro Pascal’s reign of dad-ness officially continues. A new trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps confirms what has long been suspected, Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) is pregnant. Johnny (Joseph Quinn) says she’ll be the best mom. Reed (Pascal), though? He’s out of his depth.
That kinda sorta seems to be the theme here: Sue holding things together, Reed being at a loss. The trailer starts with a long celebration of these astronauts, who came back from space “forever changed,” but by the end, Reed thinks the arrival of Silver Surfer (Julia Garner) and the threat of the death of their planet is his fault. “I stretched the bounds of space,” he says (get it, get it, stretched), “and they heard.”
The “they” here is the shiny surfer (who looks less than stellar) and her big buddy Galactus (Ralph Ineson), who we only see at the very end, as a giant pair of boots stomping through the city. More reveals to come, surely! This trailer is all about giving us the big picture: The family structure, their previous adventures, the sudden shift to impending doom. It’s all fun and games until someone comes back from space changed. (Just ask Jean Grey.)
There’s still time for some fun, here, though, most of which revolves around Eben Moss-Bachrach as the Thing, who lifts cars for children and makes dinner with H.E.R.B.I.E. At some point, Natasha Lyonne, John Malkovich, and Paul Walter Hauser will show up too.
Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman, and in theaters July 25th
