Skoda Elroq

Like the recent updates to the Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq, the Elroq has a welcoming and pleasant cabin that neatly balances robustness with a decent level of material quality.

Prod and probe the Elroq’s innards and you’ll find soft-touch materials on the dashboard, doors and door cappings, with the only let down being the cheap, nasty trim that spans the length of the dashboard.

There are some plasticky elements down by your knees, but overall fit and finish is closer to that of a Volkswagen than a Seat.

Taking centre stage is the Elroq’s 13in touchscreen display, which features new software for a clearer menu, improved sat-nav and user-friendly air conditioning system.

The physical buttons that sit below the screen are handy for function-hopping on the move. There’s also a dedicated button for turning off systems like the speed limit warning bong and overzealous driver attention system.

A push if the button takes you to a menu on the screen where you easily can flick off the annoying functions.

In sum, the screen is one of Skoda’s better offerings: the graphics are clean and crisp, it doesn’t suffer from any latency issues and it’s generally well laid out.

The 5.0in digital drivers display (carried over from the Enyaq) feels a little redundant, partly because it’s too small and partly because the head-up display is so good.

The instrument cluster is useful for displaying different types of data, but the head-up display is so intuitive and clear that you’re barely ever looking down at the dash.

There’s plenty of room up front, and our test cars’ sports seats (standard fit in the 85 Sportline) were snug and comfortable, providing a good level of lateral, lumber and shoulder support.

We had no issues with rear accommodation either: there’s more head room than leg room, but even with the driver’s seat adjusted to my preferred position it was easy to find a comfortable position in the back.

It also has a bigger boot than the Kia Niro EV and Volvo EX30 – and you get a handy charging cable storage net (one of Skoda’s Simply Clever interior features).
