Kaffe Bueno launches new upcycled anionic surfactant Kleanstant


The Danish company specializing in the transformation of coffee waste from the hotel and catering industries into cosmetic active is launching Kleanstant, a natural anionic surfactant upcycled from coffee by-products.

Multifunctional surfactant

According to Kaffe Bueno, the new ingredient harnesses the beneficial properties of coffee oil, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional surfactants, like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). It contains potassium salts of palmitic and linoleic acids, polyphenols, tocopherols, and diterpene esters, delivering effective cleansing, emulsifying, foaming, and antioxidative properties.

Kleanstant can be used to easily remove waterproof make-up without drying the skin. Naturally rich in antioxidants it protects the skin while leaving a soft and smooth feeling on the skin.

However, this versatile ingredient is also suitable for cleansers, soaps, shampoos and body washes at a dosage comprised from 5% to 40%.

With a unique fatty acid composition, which is also free from palm oil, sulphates and petroleum, it is ideal for brands aiming to cater to consumers seeking gentle and safe products. Naturally biodegradable it helps to reduce environmental impact of personal care products.

Reduced carbon footprint

Derived from coffee by-products, Kleanstant promotes upcycling within the manufacturing process, a concept increasingly valued by environmentally conscious consumers. With its light translucent, yellow soap-like texture, it helps reduce the carbon footprint by transforming waste into valuable resources.

By averting coffee grounds from ending in the trash, we avert the emissions that these would have caused (15 kg CO2-eq/kg). Plus, replacing unsustainable materials – such as coconut, palm-derived or petrochemical ingredients from personal care products, we create a positive impact to the finished products carbon footprint while contributing to the shift towards a greener and sustainable world,” states Kaffe Bueno.
