Hiss-teria Ensues in Nyaight of the Living Cat Trailer

Cats! They’re adorable and they’ll kill us all! That’s the delightful premise of the animated post-apocalyptic comedy series Nyaight of the Living Cat, which is based on the manga of almost the same name written by Hawkman and illustrated by Mecha-Roots.

Crunchyroll released a trailer for the series today, and it looks purr-fect!

Here’s the synopsis:

Run! The adorable cats are here. In 20XX, the world is dominated by cats. A virus which turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat has spread into a worldwide nyandemic. Cats rub against people, turning them into cats. Can humanity fight their urge to pet cats to survive in this cat-ridden world?

Will humanity survive? Or more importantly, will they want to? It wouldn’t be so bad to be a cat.

Takashi Miike is the executive director of Nyaight of the Living Cat, with Tomohiro Kamitani serving as the director. The script comes from Shingo Irie. It features the voices of Masaaki Mizunaka as Kunagi, a cat café employee with amnesia whose identity is shrouded in mystery; Reina Ueda as Kaoru, a high school student who loves cats and also works at the cat café; Reiji Kawashima as Arata, a former track and field athlete, and ninja-obsessed university student; Yu Serizawa as Tsutsumi, a high school student who loves cats but is also allergic to them; Subaru Kimura as Len Ward, oldest brother of a family said to have defended their base from cats for three days and three nights without sleep; Yoshiki Nakajima as Masaki Ward, the second son in the Ward family; Hiroki Yasumoto as Tanishi, a regular at the cat café; and Ryota Takeuchi as Gaku, the owner of the cat café.

All of the characters, it should be noted, love cats.

Nyaight of the Living Cat will begin streaming in July 2025 on Crunchyroll.
