Evan Spiliotopoulos’ debut novel, The Museum of Cursed Artifacts, isn’t out yet, but it’s already got a bright future: Variety reports that the book has been picked up for adaptation by the Mediapro Studio.
According to Variety, “The Museum of Cursed Artifacts begins with a famed entrepreneur completing his collection of cursed artifacts. He then takes his life in a shocking manner. His family, gutted that he blew all his money but still hoping to turn a profit with this macabre museum, assemble leading experts to verify the items’ authenticity. All hell literally breaks loose.”
The book will be published by Emily Bestler Books (an imprint of Simon & Schuster), who bought it in a two-book deal. Variety quotes Bestler as saying, “This is one of the most original and scary novels I have ever read.”
Spiliotopoulos will adapt his own work for the screen. His previous screenwriting credits include the G.I. Joe film Snake Eyes; the most recent (and quite entertaining) Charlie’s Angels (pictured above); Hercules, starring the Rock (and co-written by House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal??); the live-action Beauty and the Beast and assorted other Disney projects; The Pope’s Exorcist; and David Gordon Green’s Disneyland documentary The Happiest Place on Earth. That is really quite a wide-ranging resume.
No pub date has been announced for the novel, nor production timeline for the film.
