Brittany Cavallaro’s Charlotte Holmes Books in Development for Series Adaptation

Brittany Cavallaro’s young adult Charlotte Holmes series is getting developed for the small screen.

Deadline broke the news that Cavallaro is working with her former boarding school mate, Kit Williamson (Unconventional), on adapting the four books for television.

The books follow Charlotte and Jamie, the teenaged descendants of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson respectively (the characters are real in this world, although most people think of them as the fictionalized versions portrayed in Watson’s writing). The two meet at an elite New England boarding school, where a murder mystery soon develops.

Here’s the full blurb for the first book, A Study in Charlotte, which gives you clues as to what the first season of the TV series would focus on:

The last thing Jamie Watson wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s great-great-great-granddaughter, who has inherited not only Sherlock’s genius but also his volatile temperament. From everything Jamie has heard about Charlotte, it seems safer to admire her from afar.

From the moment they meet, there’s a tense energy between them, and they seem more destined to be rivals than anything else. But when a Sherringford student dies under suspicious circumstances, ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Sherlock Holmes stories, Jamie can no longer afford to keep his distance. Jamie and Charlotte are being framed for murder, and only Charlotte can clear their names. But danger is mounting and nowhere is safe—and the only people they can trust are each other.

Cavallaro and Williamson will co-write the adaptation, with Williamson’s production company, Go Team Entertainment, holding the rights. This isn’t the first time the two have worked together: they also partnered on the adaptation of Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar (no news on if/when we’ll ever see that, sadly), and Williamson is also reportedly working on a TV adaptation of Jason Henderson’s Alex Van Helsing trilogy.

No news yet on if/when the Charlotte Holmes series will make its way to a living room near you. icon-paragraph-end
