You wanted more Krypto? You get more Krypto! For better or—sorry, sorry—maybe a little bit for worse. A new sneak peek at DC Studios’ first feature film gives us an extended look at the scene that opened the first teaser trailer: Superman (David Corenswet) suffering in the snow, and the super-pooch showing up to take him home.
Everyone loves Krypto, and that is fair, but in this longer look there’s something a little uncanny valley about him. Maybe it’s the eyes. I can’t put my finger on it. But the longer I stared at this dog, the less he looked like a dog. And sure, you can make an argument that he’s a super-alien-dog, but still. (I like the way he just wants to play, though.)
The scene continues in the Fortress of Solitude—which opens at Krypto’s bark—with a quartet of robots who come to Superman’s aid. One certainly seems to be voiced by Alan Tudyk, and may or may not be Kelex, and may or may not be the robot Superman is grieving over in the trailer. Here, said robot has the number 4 on his forehead. The robot team analyze Superman’s considerable injuries and subject him to a hearty dose of yellow sun. The healing process seems uncomfortable.
And then we’re right back into the last trailer (minus the cute glance between Clark and Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane at the start). This long, icy scene is what began the trailer the first time around, so essentially they gave us the same thing twice, just with more Krypto, more ice, more misery, and more robots. And, yes, that spiky, crystalline-like Fortress of Solitude.
Superman is written and directed by James Gunn, and along with Corenswet and Brosnahan it stars Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, María Gabriela de Faría, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, and Neva Howell. It’s in theaters July 11th.
